Separately issued pictorial map of Europe promoting the National Savings, now the National and Investment, the UK's government-owned bank.
The map focuses on commodities and major cities but also adds portraits of famous individuals in various corresponding locations. These included Rembrandt, Mozart, Bach and Goya among many others. Major cities are also illustrated with specific monuments. The outer borders are illustrated with multiple flags and national statistics. A poignant note on the cartouche states that the figures used in these statistics are taken in the year 1938 and may change shortly which they did with the commencement of World War II.
Although different than the prevalent style pioneered by Macdonald Gill, this pictorial map is still very charming.
Original colour. [EUR1536]
