Rare “miniature Morden" map of the smaller islands of the British Isles, including the Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Scilly Isles, Jersey, Guernsey & Holy Island.
Having had great success with the county maps he provided for the new edition of William Camden’s “Britannia” in 1695, Robert Morden decided to issue a smaller, reduced set of these maps in 1701. They are very finely engraved and bear the same information and distinctive cartouches which are present on their larger counterparts.
The example offered here is from the 1708 posthumous edition of the work which was re-issued by Morden’s collaborator and engraver, Hermann Moll. Moll was responsible for the engraving, marketing and sales of this most recent edition. This particular map has also been further enhanced by the use of bright original colour.
