A large folding map of east and northeast London, extending from Finsbury Park to Leyton, and from Southwark to Canary Wharf. Includes the City of London, Hackney, Victoria Park, Hoxton, Haggerston, Dalston, Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green, Aldgate, Islington, Canonbury, Stoke Newington, Clapton, Stratford, Bromley-by-Bow, Limehouse, Wapping, Shadwell, Rotherhithe, London Bridge, Borough, Canning Town & North Greenwich. Railway stations are coloured in red, parish boundaries are outlined, and the new postal districts are also shown.

This map makes up the northeast quarter of Edward Stanford's impressive 'Library Map of London and its Suburbs', the most detailed wall map of London available during the Victorian period. Customers could purchase Stanford's 24-sheet map as individual sheets, joined and folded on linen, or mounted on a roller. The maps could also be left uncoloured or, for an extra charge, could be embellished with attractive hand colouring, as on this example. Unusually, this example of Stanford's map does not have the optional decorative border, making it possible to display this one section alone without the map seeming incomplete.
