Royal Victoria & Albert and King George V Docks

Separately issued folding map of the Royal Docks, now the site of London City Airport, the ExCel Centre and a special enterprise zone.

This was part of a series of maps that were issued by the Port of London Authority, charting the development of the docks on the Thames. This particular section focuses on the 'Royal Docks. After decades of neglect, this whole area has is in the process of being re-developed, with the addition of London City Airport, the ExCel Exhibition Centre and a new university campus for the University of East London. Further planning permission has been granted for a multi-phase mixed development for commercial and residential properties.

The map focuses principally on the infrastructure of the docks just before the outbreak of World War II, which would increase their importance exponentially. A small chart on the upper right colour codes the building types and the routes of the railways. Printed colour. SL. [LDN6386]
