Large folding wall map of the world on Mercator's Projection showing the latest geographical developments by England's foremost geographer, cartographer and publisher of the time, Edward Stanford. Folded.

This political map is incredibly detailed, and highlights commercial steam ship routes, telegraph cables and marks the routes of European exploration. Two Polar hemispheres sit in the lower corners of the map. On the map there are several manuscript markings from a previous owner,;pencil line perhaps tracing a route across the Atlantic that was planned or taken, and a red ink boundary line in the South Pacific surrounding New Zealand and islands in Polynesia - this is much like the standardised mapping boundary lines seen across the map but not a printed addition.

Possessions of the British Empire are clearly marked in red. In the lower left margin, the map is dated 20th July [VII] 1903.
