New Holland and New Zealand

English atlas map of Australia (divided into two regions named ‘New Holland’ and ‘New South Wales’), and New Zealand. The map extends to show the Pacific Ocean and some of the Lesser Sunda Islands, part of Papua New Guinea, the New Hebrides and the Solomon Islands. The interior of Australia is largely blank, and the coastline is very close to being complete, with only a few speculative, un-finished sections along the southern and western coasts.

Across the map there are annotations pinpointing the date of 'discovery', these include: "Discovered by Flinders 1802" noted near modern-day Adelaide in South Australia, “1797” by the Bass Straits which was discovered by George Bass and Matthew Flinders during their circumnavigation voyage aboard the Norfolk (1798–99), and ”1642” by Van Dieman’s Land (now Tasmania), which was sighted by Abel Tasman in 1642 and named after Anthony van Dieman.
