Large, extremely detailed folding map of the Brands Hatch Circuit and its surroundings, published in 1964, the first year that it hosted the British Grand Prix. Between 1964 and 1986, Brands Hatch hosted the Gran Prix twelve times, alternating year-by-year with Silverstone for the honour.
This map was custom-made by compiling sections from four 25-inch Ordnance Survey map sheets. The map was then dissected, laid on linen, and folded. Handsome marbled boards were added for protection and a hand-written label was pasted on the front bearing the name of Burd & Evans, Chartered Surveyors of Shrewsbury. It is almost certain that this map was commissioned by the owners of the Circuit as their land is outlined in red. A neighbouring parcel of land is outlined in blue, possibly a result of a land dispute, or possibly a piece of the land the owners were looking to purchase or sell. No further information is provided on the map about the meaning of these lines, so some inference is required.
It is extremely unlikely that more than one copy of this map was ever commissioned, making it a unique piece of motorsport history.
Manuscript colour. Folded. [KENT649]
