La France qui a connu 4 fois l'invasion en 100 ans, ne doit pas desarmer
With the ominous warning that "France has known 4 invasions in the last 100 years", this French inter-war propaganda poster advocates against disarmament. It was published by the Centre de Propagande de Républicains Nationaux which disseminated anti-Socialist and anti-disarmament propaganda. The artist behind the design is André Galland.
Hordes of shadowy figures represent the invasions of the Napoleonic Wars, the Franco-Prussian War, and the First World War. Germany, which was itself starting down the path of re-armament in the 1930s, is clearly seen to be the major threat. The poster urges the French public to vote against the "cartel" pushing for disarmament without guarantees for France's security.
Printed colour. Backed on archival linen.
