A fascinating vintage road map of Florida, published for motorists by the Gulf Oil Company. The map contains useful information, such as a guide to the state's fish and wildlife with hunting seasons and regulations. There is also an index of important locations, which largely focuses on golf and yacht clubs, but also features monuments, memorial, military bases, state parks, and universities.
The map is embellished throughout by decorative cartoons showing Florida natives and visitors enjoying recreational activities, such as sailing, fishing, and golfing. Separate maps on the back focus on the Florida panhandle, the southeastern USA, Tampa & St Petersburg, and Cuba. The map's original back cover makes note of the ongoing Florida Quadricentennial Celebration, a series of events from 1959 to 1965 celebrating the 400-year history of the European discovery and settlement of Florida.
Printed colour. [USA9618]
