A Large Draught of the North Part of China, shewing all the Passages and Chanells into the Harbour of Chusan

Large, copper-engraved sea chart of the Zhoushan Islands (formerly Chusan Islands), and follows the coastline of China's Zhejiang Province from just north of Taizhou, to the of the city of Ningbo (Ningpo), Hanzhou Bay and the mouth of the Qiantang River. The chart is oriented West.



Annotations and soundings feature along the coastlines for the user of the chart, some commenting on the main landmarks, the local geography and in some cases the source of the geography. The lower left of the map includes an inset of engraved views of the islands on approach to aid the navigator. A flag has been engraved along the coast by the walled city of Chusan marking an English Factory, an important trading station.



In the upper-right corner of the map a charmingly framed dedication made out to "the Court of Mannagers for the United Trade to the East Indies", the British East India Company.
