Edward Orme
41.5 x 26 cm
The upper image is an idealised perception of Nelson’s plan of attack. The room is extremely crowded but it does present Orme the opportunity to list the Trafalgar Captains on the lower part of the image. The lower map is more of a schematic showing the beginning of the Battle at the “crossing of the T “. This was the preferred image for the artists of the day. Due to weather conditions and the general chaos caused by Nelson’s crossing, the aftermath of this first part of the battle made for a far more untidy diagram.
Orme’s plan was one of the more commercially successful images of the battle although as will all broad sheets, it is rare.
Original colour.
