Plan of the Royal Palace and Gardens of Hampton Court Palace for Frederick Prince of Wales (1707-1751). Features listed and numbered on the plan.
This is one of John Rocque's garden plans for which he was famous in his early career. Rocque would go on to survey, compile and part publish the most important and celebrated 18th century wall map of London. Altogether, he issued three plans of Hampton Court, of which this is believed to be the rarest and is known in only one state. It is usually found in Volume IV of the Vitruvius Brittanicus, a work on the architecture of aristocratic houses published in 1739. The date of 1736 seen on the map is the engraving date.
