A stunning copper-engraved map of Piedmont in northern Italy, including Turin, Asti, Vercelli, the Val d'Aosta, the Italian Alps, and some bordering parts of France and Monaco. Published by the Rossi firm in Rome, the map's geography was compiled and drawn by the Italian cartographer Giacomo Cantelli, Court Geographer to the Duke of Modena.
The map is beautifully engraved, with exquisite detail and elaborate cartouches. A naval battle scene adorns the title cartouche in the lower-right corner, whilst angelic figures in the upper-left corner carry the coat of arms of the dedicatee, Cardinal Giovanni Francesco Albani, later to become Pope Clement XI. Originally published in four sheets, this example has been professionally joined.
