Map of the Southwest Coast of Iceland
Detailed survey of the southwest coast of Iceland, including Reykjavik, by the Scottish geologist and argriculturalist, Sir George Steuart MacKenzie (1780-1848).
MacKenzie traveled to Iceland in 1810 in order to further his studies of geology and minerology - his route is marked in red on the map. He and his colleagues subsequently published an important narrative of their expedition, Travels in Iceland, in which he wrote one of the earliest scientific explanations for the periodic eruptions of geysers.
Original hand-colour. [SCAN2491]
