North America in the period between the Revolutionary War and the Louisiana Purchase. During this period, the western border of the United States extended to the Mississippi River while anything to the west coast belonged to Spain. Florida remained Spanish.

In comparison to some later editions of this map from the early 19th century, this map's geography is very outdated. The mythical River of the West can still be seen in the area of modern-day Oregon, and there are several large, tentative lakes spread across Canada. The Pacific Northwest's geography is speculative and does not reflect the discoveries of Cook or Vancouver - there is no indication of Alaska at all. Much of the detail given along the east coast is still based on colonial-era maps, and there do not appear to be any European settlements west of the Appalachians in the United States. 'New Albion', the name given to northern California by Sir Francis Drake when he claimed the area for Great Britain, is still used on this map, perhaps to strengthen British claims in the Pacific Northwest.
