Specialkarte der Asiatischen Turkei
Two sheet map of Turkey (then Anatolia) showing extraordinary detail from the Gulf of Izmir to Lake Van. Two inset maps show the Black Sea coastal towns of Sinop and Trabzon.
Joseph Grässl was the cartographer and engraver behind the map. Very little is known about Grässl but that he operated from Gotha, central Germany and for his working partnership with Joseph Meyer.
Joseph Meyer (1796-1856) was a very successful German publisher and industrialist who founded the Bibliographisches Institut in Gotha in 1826, which two years later was moved to Hildberghausen.
