18th century rendering of ancient Jerusalem, attempting to blend Biblical scholarship with current information gathered by contemporary travellers.
The ancient city is divided into its four classical quarters, Temple on Mount Moriah or Temple Mount, Zion or the City of David, Salem or the Lower Town and Bezeta (Bezetha) or the New Town. Several settlements are marked outside the city as well as crossed swords, meaning battle sites, together with Biblical references below. The map also shows Mount Olivet or the Mount of Olives and Mount Calvary, each with appropriate Biblical references. The land of Moriah is again a Biblical reference associated with the site of modern Jerusalem.
Original colour. [MEAST4542]
