Persia Arabia & c

Attractive, colourful map of three important regions in the MIddle East, the Arabian Peninsula, Persia (Iran) and Cabul ((Afghanistan).

This is one of the earliest maps of this region published in the United States. The shape and internal details of Persia and Afghanistan bear a close resemblance to the maps of John Arrowsmith published in 1834, particularly the distinctive border between Afghanistan and Beluchistan.

The shape of Arabia does not seem to match any of the other early 19th century maps of the Peninsula although it does bear geographical elements than can be traced to the maps by Carsten Niebuhr and some resemblances to John Thomson's map of 1814 and John Cary's map of 1804.
