Opulentissimi Regni Persiae
One of the grandest 18th century maps of Persia or Iran published in Europe. The large baroque cartouche on the upper right illustrates the cultural and material wealth of the Empire.
Geographically, the map is derived from P. Busch's map of 1727. Busch obtained much of his information from Johann B. Homann's map. Matthias Seutter, Homann's former apprentice, improved, augmented and developed this map to make into one of the grand productions for which the German School is so renowned during this period. Tobias Conrad Lotter, Seutter's son-in-law and successor published this map after 1760 and substituted his name for Seutter's on the cartouche.
