This uncommon geological wall map of Kuwait is printed in both Arabic and English and was published by the Government of Kuwait shortly after independence from Britain in 1961. The map distinguished 18 different surface layers and geological strata using colour and patterning. Roads, air strips, water pipes, and oil pipelines are also marked on the map.



The map's sources, listed below a small overview map of Arabia, show this map to be a compilation of data gathered by the Geological Survey of Austria, the British War Office and Air Ministry, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Kuwait. It was printed by Freytag-Berndt & Artaria in Vienna, Austria. The map was originally folded but has since been professionally pressed.



The early post-independence date and the map's importance for oil and gas extraction make this a foundational map for the modern State of Kuwait.
