Glorious six sheet wall map backed on linen. The map focuses on Glamorgan, Brecon previously known as Brecknockshire and Radnorshire.

This is one of the famous wall maps by the Greenwood brothers, Christopher and John. Famed as perfectionists, the Greenwood brothers based these maps on new surveys reflecting the vast changes in the country after the early stages of the Industrial Revolution brought about by the introduction of steam power.

With its vast reserves of coal, Wales suddenly became a wealth generator for the aristocracy, landed gentry and the newly made wealthy such as merchants, bankers and other professions. This south eastern part of the country was traditionally the most populous, hence the relatively early publication of this map in 1828.

The map bears all the hall marks of their craftsmanship, with delicate hachuring indicating the contours of the land, the archetypal Georgian font variation of the lettering and a wealth of detail never previously seen on a map of this area.
