Carte de la Baye et Riviere de Delaware
Chart of Delaware Bay and River from its mouth unto Philadelphia.
The chart was issued under the authority of Antoine de Sartine, one of the most powerful politicians in the government of Louis XV and XVI. From 1774-80 he was Secretary to the Navy in France and tasked with modernising the service. His keen interest in maintaing and updating French Naval cartographic archives resulted in a series of important charts from all over the world taken from the manuscript maps of naval officers.
