Carte de la Californie
California. French edition of the influential Jesuit map of the region published in the major work about California in the mid-eighteenth century. The work was first issued in Madrid in 1757 and went through several translations, including French and English. This map is from the French translation of 1767 and differs from the 1757 Spanish first issue by not having an illustrated border. This is the first accurate description of Baja California and the Colorado and Gila Rivers. [USA8890]
