Rare, highly detailed map of the theater of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904. Geographically, it is focused on North Korea, eastern Russia and northeastern China. This conflict resulted in a crushing Japanese victory and their acquisition of Liaodong Peninsula, which they held until 1945. It could also be argued that their triumph heralded the arrival of Japan as a world power.
The map is extremely detailed with particular emphasis to the developing rail network. The Liaodong Peninsula has its own inset and is specifically marked as Russia, following the First Sino-Japanese War. Manchuria is marked as a separate region and there is a line marked as "palisade" referring to the ancient Willow Palisade, a ditch and embankment planted with willow trees. Printed colour. Folded.
