New England or the North eastern portion of the United States, showing modern New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine with part of Pennsylvania.
Fundamentally, this map is based on Moll's famous "A New and Exact Map of the Dominions of the King of Great Britain on ye continent of North America" also known as the "Beaver Map" due to the large vignette of beavers building their dam. It was first published in 1715 in the "World Described" and bound c.1720. This map is an extract of the New England region from that large map.
Of particular note is the meticulous detailing of the coastal road from Brunswick, Maine through Boston and New York City to Philadelphia and beyond. The text panel on the lower right goes into extraordinary detail of the movement of post in the interior of the United States; this is a direct copy of the same panel with is present on the large map of 1715 on the upper right. It is not known as to why Moll had such a fascination for the fledgling postal system of the nation although it could be speculated that he was drawing attention to both his contacts there and his ability to gain geographical information about the continent.
