This colourful map of Beijing (formerly Peking), was published in both English and Mandarin for an international audience. It shows the city in 1922 during the Warlord Era of the Chinese Republic. A stamp in the lower-right corner of the map notes that this example was sold by the French Book Store in Beijing, a cultural hub, academic library, and book shop for foreign residents in the city. Unsurprisingly, the map has an inset with an enlarged view of the Legation Quarter, the site of the European embassies. An index below the map lists important locations in both English and Mandarin.
