Vintage plan of Shanghai designed by the Navy Young Men's Christian Association for use by the U. S. servicemen stationed or visiting the city.

The map is dated to the early 1930s on the account that it is promoting "Socony Motor Gasoline". The Standard Oil Company of New York ('Socony' for short) merged with the Vaccum Oil Company in 1931 was renamed the "Socony-Vaccum Oil Company". Socony eventually became Mobil (1963). It is likely there was a short delay in updating merchandise or adverts, especially printed works like this overseas.

The reverse of the map features a listing of adverts for local restaurants, car hire, jewelers, lingerie and ice cream, and is accompanied by advice for the traveler, a listing of amusements and sights around the city and about the Y. M. C. A.
