Les Isles du Japon
Early map of Japan, also showing the island of Korea. The original geography of this map can be traced back to Sanson's map of the islands first issued in 1652, accounting for the very outdated geography. The mysterious islands to the North was one of the European perceptions of the time that modern Hokkaido, or Iesso as it was known at the time, was in fact two separate islands. Dutch F. Halma edition. Vivid original hand colour. [SEAS4806]
