Attractive map of the West Indies, Central America and the southern coast of the United States.

Unusually for this work, this map seems to have been taken from an English source. The most likely is an early map by Thomas Kitchin. This is seen in the distinctive "boxy" shape of Hispaniola or the Dominican Republic and the fractured depiction of southern Florida.

There is a small key on the lower left, showing the fluid nature of European possession of several islands in the Antilles at the end of the Seven Years War. Hence Guadaloupe, an island usually associated with the French Crown is marked as "N" for Neutrali or neutral while conversely, Antigua, usually associated with the British, is marked the same way.

The map first appeared in the Gazettiere Americano, an Italian translation of the American Gazetteer. The maps and much of the narrative focus mainly on the Theatres of the Seven Years War or the French Indian War as it was known in North America. [WIND4342]
