The Isthmus of Panama to illustrate the Paper by Laurence Oliphant Esq.
Detailed map of the Isthmus of Panama from Colón and Limon Bay east to the border with Colombia. The southern coastline from La Chorrera and Panama City and details the islands in the Gulf of Panama. The map focuses on the physical topography, giving great detail of mountains, rivers and bays. A dotted line in the southern coast from Panama to modern day Güera and Brujas on the border of the Darien Province marks a low-lying sand bank. A railway line runs from Colón to Panama City.
This map would have originally accompanied a paper by South African-British author, traveller and diplomat Laurence Oliphant (1829-1888).
Original outline colour. [WIND3430]
