A New & Accurate Map of Negroland and the Adjacent Countries
West Africa divided into its kingdoms and states as they were understood by the Europeans. Trading factories belonging to the English, French, Dutch, and Danish are marked along the Guinea coast.
Bowen's short notes about each of the regions provide a fascinating window into European knowledge about West Africa. For example, the Kingdom of Bito (northern Nigeria) "whose Inhabitants are esteem'd to be very Rich" and the adjacent Kingdom of Temian, "Anthropophages or Man Eaters".
Coloured. [AFR4436]
