The map is elegant and exact with fine clear lettering. It represents a new phase in cartography, where accuracy and detail become more important than the decorative embellishments of the eighteenth century. Travel and commerce were rapidly increasing; the world was expanding, opening up to new forms of knowledge and culture. This map is part of a series of seminal works that embraced all of this new information and redefined map making, setting the standard of all cartographers that followed.
