Africae
Attractive map of Africa with native animals decorating the interior and European trading ships sailing around the coastline. Jacob van Meurs, an Amsterdam publisher, derived this map primarily from Nicolas Visscher's c.1658 map of Africa for publication in Olfert Dapper's Naukeurige Beschrijvinge der Afrikaensche... (1668), one of the most important 17th century texts about Africa. Van Meurs did not make any geographical changes to Visscher's map, but he did add a prominent title cartouche in the upper-right corner.
