Aphrica
An early rendition of the African continent based on Portuguese sources and the maps of Ortelius. Geographically, this map generally follows the model used in Gerard Mercator's world maps, though Madagascar has been shortened and widened. The title is set within a strap work cartouche at the bottom left of the map. Also on the left of the map is a text box containing a description of Africa in nine lines of Latin text.
