A vintage tourist map of the American Southwest, covering California, Arizona, New Mexico, and part of Colorado. Landmarks are illustrated and Native American pueblos are marked. An inset shows Grand Canyon National Park and its surroundings. The back of this folding map has information about Native American signs and symbols from the Pueblo and Navajo nations.
The publisher of this map, the Fred Harvey Company, operated a chain of restaurants, diners, cafes, hotels, and tourist sites across the American southwest. Ford Harvey, the son of the company's founder, was so fascinated by Native American culture and art that he hired native artists, sculptors, and weavers to produce products to sell in his hotels, hence the interest in Native American symbols.
Printed colour. [USA9786]
