A New Topographical Map of the Country in the vicinity of London describing all the new Improvements, Metropolitan Boroughs and Parish Boundaries

Separately issued folding map of London showing the explosive growth of the city in the 19th century. This map has a long printing history, with the first edition being issued in 1810 by William Faden. Geographically the boundaries do not change with its edges showing South Norwood to Upper Edmonton stretching south to north and East Acton to Barking west to east.

This format was obviously popular as there were several editions issued by Faden and then the map was taken over by his successor James Wyld the Elder who in turn passed it on to his son, James Wyld the Younger. Each successive edition recorded added growth to the city of London.

This is the 6th edition with the date changed to 1845. Among the new developments are the areas around Notting Hill and Ladbroke Square while there is some lesser development around the Chelsea area. Wyld uses heavier black ink on the map to show new urban growth in comparison to the fainter black ink used to mark London in the 18th century.
