The Mountain System of the Himalaya and Neighbouring Ranges of India
A study of the mountain range of the Himalayas used to illustrate a lecture by Lieut. Col. H. H. Godwin-Austen.
The map was used to illustrate an article in the Geographical Journal of the Royal Geographical Society which summerised a lecture given by Godwin-Austen to the Geographical Section of the British Association.
The Trigonometrical Survey of India was used as a base for the map while additional information was provided by Godwin-Austen himself, who worked for the Survey before his retirement. In one of his earlier surveys, Godwin-Austen explored the glaciers at the base of K2 and also calculated the height of the peak. K2 is also known as Mount Godwin-Austen in honour of the surveyor.
Original colour. [IC2898]
