A Map of the English Lakes and Adjoining Country Geologically Coloured
Attractive geological map of the Lake District in Cumbria, northern England.
This map was published locally by John Garnett in Windermere and the survey was conducted by John Ruthven of Kendal. The Lake District, then in Lancashire, Westmoreland and Cumberland, was just beginning to gain a reputation for outstanding natural beauty and no doubt its spectacular peaks and valleys attracted geologists, curious to find out if the area also contained unusual geology and if the two were interrelated.
Original hand colour. [GB2102]
