Celestial map of the stars in the night sky as they appear from May 7th to July 3rd. The Milky Way can be seen running across the left of the map. One of a series of twelve maps, one for each month of the year.
Published by Dr. Richard Proctor, an English astronomer who wrote and published prolifically on the subject of astronomy. His most successful work, Half-Hours with the Telescope (1868) eventually ran to 20 editions. Though never hugely successful in a commercial sense, his books were popular amongst novice astronomers and serious scientists alike.
