Admiralty chart showing the latest surveys of the western section of the Persian Gulf, covering the coasts of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, southern Iraq and the southwest coast of Iran.
This is the western sheet of the 1951 survey of the Gulf, which was compiled from information provided during and after World War II. The whole area saw enormous military activity under the Allied Gulf Command, tasked with protecting vital Saudi and Iraqi oil fields from Japanese and German activity. Detailed current charts were vital as submarines were perceived to be the main threat.
A small manuscript date in purple ink on the lower left margin states that small corrections were added in 1952. This could refer to the addition of lighthouses.
