A New Map of North America According to ye Newest Observations
Interesting, small map of North America based on Moll's much larger version which appeared in his famous work, "The World Described".
Although the engraving on this map is cruder than that of his large map, the essential geographical features and information superficially resemble Moll's much larger map present in his atlas "The World Described." These include the depiction of California as an island, the course of the mythical River of the West as shown by Baron Lahontan and the entry to the equally mythical Straits of Anian. However, the lack of the name Louisiana suggests that elements of the information were taken from an earlier source.
It became popular and was the usual map North America used by Moll both during his lifetime and posthumously by publishers who re-issued his small format books. The life time issues - pre 1732- are more unusual.
