Separately issued folding map of London from the Isle of Dogs in the east to Hyde Park in the west and Camberwell in the south to Islington in the north. <br> <br>This is the last folding map of London by the great cartographer William Faden. It is on a large scale and focuses on the city as opposed to the environs. It reflects the enormous growth of London, with an eastern extension showing the newly constructed East and West India docks.
Faden first issued it in 1818; it was published again with slight changes and a change in the title in the same year. It was issued again in 1819.
The present example is the next issue of 1823, when the map added new information to the north and south of London, changing its size from 18 inches to 22 inches in height. Faden retired in 1824 and the map continued to be regularly re-issued by James Wyld the Elder, successor to Faden. This example is the last issue of the map with Faden’s imprint.
