The difficult question of the western limits of the Chinese Empire was an ever present point of discussion among the diplomats in this region, especially due to the thorny problem of the status of Tibet. This map illustrates the British perspective. Archibald Rose was a high profile British diplomat who would be the British representative to the Simla Accord, held in 1913-14. It was this agreement that led to the establishment of the famous McMahon Line, which became the border between British India and Chinese Tibet.
