Parte Meridionale dell'Arcipelago
A detailed map of the Cyclades and the Dodecanese Islands in the southern Aegean Sea, including Crete, Rhodes, Paros, Naxos, Andros, Mikonos, Santorini, Kos, Patmos, and many others. Small notes next to many of the islands list the major settlements and, when relevant, their connection to Venice. Many of these islands were controlled by Venice prior to the Ottoman invasions of the 15th and 16th centuries.
In the upper-left corner is a list of battles between the Venetians and the Ottomans during the Morean War, also known as the Sixth Ottoman-Venetian War, of 1684-1699. This was the only Ottoman-Venetian conflict in which Venice could claim victory, making it a major, if short-lived, triumph. It is no surprise, therefore, that Vincenzo Coronelli, himself a Venetian, chose to include such a precise accounting of the war on his map of the region.
