Macedonia, Epirus et Achaia
A handsome Dutch Golden Age map of Greece, specifically the central and northern regions of Attica, Macedonia, Epirus, and Thessaly. Important cities are marked in red: curiously, this does not include Athens which is barely mentioned at all. The map's scrollwork title cartouche is flanked by an Ottoman soldier and a demonic figure, a clear indication of European attitudes towards the Ottoman Empire's domination of Greece and the Balkans at that time. Latin text on the verso. Original hand-colour
