Arresting wall map of London showing the new County of London, created in 1889.
This large, easily legible wall map of London was very likely published as a response to Stanford's map of the same name first issued in 1894. However, its scale of three inches to the mile allowed it to be smaller and therefore less expensive, It is attractively coloured, with a pink border denoting the new County. The extended map covers from Hammersmith in the west to Plumstead Marshes in the east and Lower Sydenham and Norwood in the south to Holloway and Stoke Newington in the north.
The use of the name "South Kensington Museum" as opposed to the Victoria and Albert as well as the citing of an art gallery which would become the Tate on the former location of the Millbank Penitentiary dates this map to the very last decade of the 19th century.
Printed colour. Folding. [LDN6712]
