Absolutely charming 19th century folding pocket map of the town of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, presented in its original case and with a listing of the local places of worship. The map highlights the important buildings, institutions farms and estates in great detail and the surrounding road network is picked out in orange. Major parks and immaculately landscaped estate grounds are coloured green.
The map marks the Calverley Estate, which was designed by famous Regency architect Decimus Burton (1880-1881) to form Calverley New Town, a settlement for private residents complete with over 20 grand villas, Tudor-style servants cottages, a promenade and pleasure gardens.
