A large, folding wall map showing the Madras Presidency at its territorial height. This map was compiled by the Madras Presidency's official survey agency as a road map to assist early automobile users. B.O.C. and Shell petrol stations are marked, as are distributors of the "Madras Mail" newspaper. Roads fit for motor traffic are specifically marked as such. Given that there were only around 13,500 cars in all of India in 1920, the market for such a map must have been quite limited, though it must have been obvious to the Madras government that automobiles were the future of personal travel.
