12-inch German terrestrial globe sat upon a handsome bevelled black wooden pedestal with a polished brass half-meridian. The geography shown on the globe dates it to around 1928; the globe names Peking (now Beijing) which was formerly Peiping until 1928, and Constantinople is yet to be changed to Istanbul (1930).
This globe was manufactures by the successful and important Berlin-based globe and scientific instrument maker, Ernst Schotte & Co., established in 1855. As well as terrestrial and celestial globes, they also produced orraries and tellurians.
