Tallis's map of Dublin is one of the most decorative plans of the city published in the Victorian period. It is distinctively adorned with several vignettes.
Tallis's Illustrated Atlas was issued for the Great Exhibition of 1851 and became a very popular work. All the maps within were drawn and engraved by John Rapkin and were also embellished with vignettes relevant either to the city or country. Although the cities were generally associated with the United Kingdom, the countries were world wide and are now very popular among collectors.
This plan of Dublin is adorned with vignettes of St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Custom House and the Four Courts among other images.
